Seek you for purpose?
Chance is not so blind
As is Mankind.
Look not to find Lamarck
Through the long dark,
But seek the light of chance
And see life's dance
on any earth
Give birth to mind
And purpose find.

Chance holds the purpose.
Chance's bounty rule,
The cosmic tool,
Finding a genial clime
and finding time,
Has to give life to dust;
A life which must
On any earth
Give birth to mind
And purpose find.

Whatever cause
Set chances laws
Adrift in time and space,
Knows that at last the spirit's purpose
Must win Chance's race!
