Wandering along the road
Pondering life's weary load,
I saw a damsel passing by
neatly dressed to catch the eye.

Though I couldn't bear with that
Confection I supposed a hat,
I winked an eye at her and smiled.
I was ignored, but wasn't wild,
Thinking that it didn't matter----
She was mad just like her hatter!

A tedious task
Is all I ask,
But it must pay
Ten pounds a day!

I would not shirk
The irksome work
If I could spend
Each long week end
Away in play
With some good friend.

A tedious task
Ten pounds a day
And long week ends to spend the pay-

Oh! where's the strife
In business life?
